NARROW GATE

A SOLO EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURE BY DEMI KAHN

On view through August 17, 2025

”Narrow Gate is not an exhibition in the traditional sense. It is a spatial offering — a meditation on emergence, stillness, and the fragile process of returning to oneself. Through a series of sculptural interventions and suspended forms, Demi Kahn traces a deeply personal movement: out of the architecture of protection, out of the inherited language of identity, and into something quieter, truer, and wholly alive.” — Megan Olivia Ebel, Guest Curator

The Lanecia A. Rouse Gallery is delighted to present Narrow Gate, a solo exhibition of sculpture by Houston-based artist, Demi Kahn, curated by Megan Olivia Ebel. This exhibition intimately invites quiet introspection through an installation of sculpture. By using organic forms in states of flux, Kahn examines the nuances of growth through developing an internal stillness to foster self-reflection.

Demi Kahn is an award-winning sculptural fiber artist whose work explores the tension between strength and softness. Using traditional macramé and weaving techniques, she creates sweeping, three -dimensional forms from both organic and non-organic materials, placing softness in dialogue with structural resilience. Her recent work expands into immersive sculpture and installation, investigating themes of introspection, presence, and the search for a true state of consciousness. Kahn’s practice is primarily self- taught, rooted in tactile intuition, and a deep sensitivity to material, space, and emotion.

She has exhibited at Gallery Diderot in Orquevaux, France; the Lawndale Art Center’s Big Show in Houston; the Lanecia A. Rouse Gallery in Houston; and Ruby Projects in Houston. She has been awarded the Etsy Design Award in the Art category (2020), the Denis Diderot Grant, and the Emerging Artist Grant from the Château Orquevaux Residency Program (2022), and most recently participated in the La Ruche Artist Residency in Houston. Kahn lives and works in Houston, Texas.
